Why Host This Series?

Dear Pastor,

Just the other day, I saw something that really troubled me. I watched a man on international television tell the world that life is meaningless. “This is all there is,” he said. “There is nothing more. When you die, that’s it. It’s over!”

If that were an isolated statement, then maybe it wouldn’t bother me so much. But in today’s world, there is a growing sense of despondency because an entire generation has grown up with the notion that there is no meaning to our existence. Young people are told that, for no particular reason, they’ve descended from lower life forms. As a result, they find life absolutely meaningless. This leads to depression, despondency, and in extreme cases, even suicide.

When I was a kid (not all that long ago), it was pretty rare to find people in North America who didn’t know something about the Christian faith. But that’s not the case anymore. Many in this generation has been raised with no knowledge of the basic Christian virtues that form the foundation for Western civilization. We have lost our moorings, and the minds of our young people are adrift without any anchor points to give them hope.

We are launching a new project at It Is Written that addresses some of the most important questions and issues in Western society. It’s called Out of Thin Air.

We hope you will participate in this dynamic event. We have something incredibly valuable to add to the public discussion on origins. The time has never been better, and I look forward to working with you this fall!

Your brother in Christ,
